New Chairman for the Civil Service Club

The Civil Service Club are delighted to announce the appointment of Sir Peter Housden as their new Chairman. Sir Peter retired as Permanent Secretary for the Scottish Government in 2015 having previously served in the Department for Communities & Local Government and in the Department for Education & Skills. Sir Peter succeeds John Whittaker CBE, formerly a Director in the Cabinet Office. John served as Chairman for many years before he passed away earlier this year.
Martin Klaassen, Honorary Secretary, said ‘Sir Peter has been a member and regular user of the Club for a number of years. He shares our desire to ensure we continue to offer affordable and accessible facilities for past and present civil servants in the heart of London. The Club has taken many strides forward in its accommodation and services in recent years and we are looking forward to carrying on this work under Sir Peter’s leadership.’
Sir Peter said ‘The Civil Service Club is an important part of the landscape of Whitehall, offering a friendly and informal setting to enjoy good food and drink, a lively events programme and excellent overnight accommodation. It is a real privilege to have this opportunity to work with the Committee and General Manager David Rowberry to help take the Club forward.’
